After passing Monaco, we turned south for Elba. However the forecasts were calling for gale force winds further south. Figuring that the sail would have taken about 30 hours and we didn't want to be caught at 3am in a gale, we decided to turn tail and find a quiet little port and see what the weather did. Menton, France was our choice of ports. This tiny little port village is right on the border between France and Italy, at the foot of the Maritime Alps. Look at the second picture, where the setting sun is reflecting on the cliff face ahead. That cliff is the border. The cruising guide states that it is really an Italian town on the French side of the border. Someday, I will have an apartment in this village. By the way, the gale never happened |
