![]() Corfu was probably my favorite island stop of the entire trip. After leaving Paxos and finally getting enough wind to put the sails up (briefly), we arrived in Corfu Town close to sunset and moored at the Corfu Yacht Club. This club is in a marina under an old stone fortress that was built in the Byzantine times. The rusty iron ring on the old stone mole I tied Storm Eagle up to had been there for centuries. Corfu Town is one of the most scenic towns in the Greek Islands. It has two fortresses (the old fort where we moored the boat and the new fort started by the Venetians in the 1500's). Most of the architecture is Venetian, with a later strong British influence. We stayed in Corfu for two nights, and I had the chance to explore Corfu thoroughly. I said my goodbyes to David and Gillian and bid S/V Storm Eagle fair seas, then flew off to Athens. |
