Sailing Trip in the Med, 5/05

Palermo, Sicily to Roccella Ionica, Italy

Once again this May, I had the chance to sail with David and his friend Peter on Storm Eagle. This year, I met the boat in Palermo, Sicily. We sailed along the north coast of Sicily, to the Ioian islands by Volcano, Stromboli to Lipari, then through the straits of Messina to Siracuse. From there we sailed overnight to Roccella on the foot of Italy.

The boat was a 40ft Oyster, a British ketch designed for cruising in the North Sea. This was an amazing boat, with a midnight blue hull, teak decks, and just about every piece of equipment imaginable. Perfectly rigged.
