A trip to St. John is a great way to spend a day. There are several ways to get to St. John from St. Thomas.
First, there is a passenger ferry that leaves from the waterfront on Charlotte Amelia. This is a nice 45 minute ride along the south side of St. Thomas. However, there are only a few of these a day, and the last one departs St. John at 3:45 in the afternoon (which makes for a short day). Contact Transportation Services at (340) 776-6282 or Varlak Ventures at (340) 776-6412.
There are passenger ferries that leaves hourly from Redhook, St. Thomas to St. John. Although it takes a taxi ride to get to Redhook, these ferries run until midnight, which makes for a full day on St. John (and maybe dinner in one of Cruz Bay's finest restaurants). Contact Transportation Services at (340) 776-6282 or Varlak Ventures at (340) 776-6412.
Finally, there are three car ferry services that run from Redhook. Passengers are allowed to ride in the car at no extra cost (so if you have a rental car on St. Thomas you can take it to St. John and drive around). Each of the three car services have their own schedules, so if you buy a round-trip ticket on one, you have to take that one on the return trip.
